Dr. Robinson’s formative years prepared her to attend the United States Naval Academy (USNA), where she earned a Bachelor of Science in English.
She graduated in the first class post the 9/11 terrorist attack (2002). In addition to providing transformative growth as a human and leader, her Naval Academy college experience brought a network of life-long friendships, mentorship, access and opportunities, and travel, shaping Dr. Robinson into the leader she is today.
Upon graduation, Dr. Robinson was selected to serve her country as a U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) Officer. Her occupational specialty was as a financial management officer, which included everything from budget development and executing several multi-million dollar accounts to overseeing government contracts and payroll management.
After completing service as her first duty station at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, she returned to the Naval Academy to work in the Office of Admissions, where she became the Senior Diversity Admissions Counselor.
In this job, she served candidates on the entire East Coast and two U.S. territories while offering leadership to regional field officers and approximately 1,000 volunteers across the United States. Dr. Robinson regularly trained leaders, engaged the public, held dialogue with national influencers, lectured classes, organized events, counseled potential college students, and mentored current midshipmen (USNA students).
Dr. Robinson earned the rank of USMC Captain, and she had the privilege of being a part of the leadership team that recruited the most racially, ethnically, and gender-diverse class in the Naval Academy’s history at the time. She was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps after six years of service.
Following active duty, Dr. Robinson continued her public service as the Director of Finance and Administration for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate, International Cooperative Programs Office. This role expanded her professional work experience to include the facilitation and financial oversight of international and government interagency agreements, government contracting, the award of international grants, and executive reporting to the White House.
After serving with the Department of Homeland Security, Dr. Robinson began her entrepreneurship journey.
She launched her writing career and enrolled as a full-time student at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary-Charlotte, where she graduated cum laude with a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership (2014) and received the Redemptive Leadership Award.
In 2010, Dr. Robinson began writing and publishing professionally, while cultivating her budding professional speaking career.
She speaks regularly at colleges, universities, conferences, and leadership summits. Her speaking has taken her worldwide, including classrooms in Kigali, Rwanda. Her writing focuses on leadership, mentorship, spiritual formation, and the pursuit of justice. Dr. Robinson is a truth-teller who writes passionately from her social location, work, and love for the communities she serves. Over the years, her public service has expanded to include advocacy in anti-human trafficking and other justice-related issues, promoting education and raising up the next generation of leaders.
In 2023, Dr. Robinson obtained her Doctorate of Ministry from North Park Theological Seminary as part of a cohort with Fuller Theological Seminary.
Her dissertation focused on the narratives and controlling images that negatively impact the lives of Black women and the systemic work needed to address these challenges. Dr. Robinson addresses these social, historical, cultural, and theological narratives through the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Leadership LINKS, Inc., which she founded with African American graduates of the Naval Academy in August 2015.
